THINGS TO DO IN PHILADELPHIA

Philadelphia was at the heart of the American Revolution and was the temporary capital of the country between 1790 and 1800.  Originally planned in a grid pattern of streets for easy travel the addition of modern transport make it easy to explore.

HISTORICAL PHILADELPHIA

The city was founded in 1682 by William Penn and was the meeting place of the Founding Fathers of America and the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed.  Visit the Independence Hall, its free, where the Declaration was signed and the Museum of the American Revolution to uncover the story of America. Visit the famous Liberty Bell and the Benjamin Franklin Museum in the city’s Historic District or wander down Elfreth’s Alley and admire the buildings in America’s oldest continuously inhabited street.

TOUR AND EXPLORE 

Why not get an overview of the city and its attractions by taking a bus tour.  There are also many different walking tours from historic walks to prohibition tours to enjoy.  You can even visit the haunted places in the city by candlelight! Alternatively you could treat yourself to a dining and sightseeing cruise down the Delaware River with Entertainment Cruises.  You could even try a horse drawn carriage ride through the city.

VIEWING PLATFORMS 

For those with a head for heights who want a bird’s eye view of the city why not visit the One Liberty Observation Deck in the heart of the city centre.

BEST PHILADELPHIA ATTRACTIONS 

If you are unsure which attractions to visit why not try the Philadelphia Explorer Pass with a choice of 30 attractions.  There is something for everyone in this city.  The kids will love Legoland Discovery Centre, the Please Touch Museum, Philadelphia Zoo and the Adventure Aquarium. If museums are your thing try the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, the Philadelphia Museum of Art or the National Constitution Centre.  For those who like an adrenaline rush how about a bit of skydiving at the Indoor Skydiving Experience!

TRIPS FROM PHILADELPHIA 

Lancaster county is home to America’s oldest Amish settlement.  Take a day trip and learn about this old and very simple culture.  Take a day trip by train to New York and enjoy the atmosphere of the Big Apple or enjoy the peace of a visit to Rickett’s Glen State Park or the wineries in the Brandywine Valley!
