Enjoy glorious opera performed in the reopened Budapest State Opera House with Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. We add cultural visits in and around Budapest including a Sightseeing Tour, visit to the Dohany Street Synagogue, the Hungarian Parliament, boat trip on the Danube and excursion to Godollo Palace. Budapest is an enchanting city with beautiful palaces and castles. See the city sights as you are chauffeured along Budapest's elegant boulevards to Heroes’ Square, across the mighty Danube and up to Gellert Hill. Look out over the famous river dividing Buda and Pest - the two sides linked by the Chain and Elizabeth Bridges. Visit the Castle District and enjoy the amazing views from the Fisherman’s Bastion over the exquisite Parliament building, one of the largest in Europe. During your free time, be sure to spend the afternoon at the popular pedestrian shopping street of Váci utca where the city’s museums and monuments, churches and synagogues, historic squares and buildings are within easy reach or enjoy a relaxing visit to one of Budapest's famous thermal baths.

 


Program

Day 1

Your tour will start with flight to Budapest. Flight time to be advised. On arrival in Budapest, meet your local guide and transfer to the 4* K&K Opera Hotel where you are booked for three-nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2

This morning after breakfast, join your local guide for a full day guided city tour with lunch.
Discover the Buda Castle district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its cobbled streets, walk in the alleys of the old district and admire the beautiful Baroque style houses. Visit the Fisherman’s Bastion, with its 7 towers that commemorate the 7 Hungarian tribes who settled in the territory of Hungary in 896. The Bastion offers a spectacular view over Budapest. Continue to the Royal Castle on foot. This marvellous building overlooks the Danube with a length of 304 meters. Among the ancient fortifications, all restored, the most interesting ones are said to be Stephan’s Tower, Mace tower the Ferdinand Gate.

We stop for Lunch in the historical centre on the Pest side (3-course menu) and afterwards we discover the Pest side of Budapest and its Jewish Heritage. Visit the Dohány Street (Reformed) Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe and the Hungarian Jewish Museum.

Your local guide will take you on a short walk in the Jewish District. Visit the “Shoes on the Danube Bank,” close to the Parliament, at the shores of the Danube, a spot commemorating the Jews who were ordered to remove their shoes before being shot by the Nazis. Admire the architecture along Andrássy út, constructed in 1872 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, largely thanks to the beautiful facades of the houses and hotels in Renaissance style that are still preserved. Visit Heroes Square, walk around the City Park, admire the exterior of the Széchenyi Baths and Vajdahunyad Castle and its inner courtyard.

Day 3

Today, visit the architectural jewel of Budapest, the Hungarian Parliament Building. Home to the Holy Crown of Hungary, we explore the buildings impressive interior. Marvel at the history behind the walls of Hungary’s largest building as your admire the impressive staircase, Session Room and Great Vaulted Hall.
From the Parliament, the tours continues on foot, with a short walking tour passing the Art Nouveau Postal Savings Bank and Gresham Palace.
Then admire beautiful Budapest as you cruise along the Danube River on a one-hour boat trip. See the city’s famous landmarks such as the Chain Bridge and Buda Castle. After lunch in a local restaurant, our tour ends and you are then free to enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Day 4

Today, explore Godollo Palace, Sisi’s favored summer palace, as we take an interior tour of the baroque residence Built in the 18th century, the castle was donated by the Hungarian people as a wedding gift to the royal family of Franz Joseph and Queen Elizabeth. The main rooms, the gala room, the queen's reception hall, her boudoir, the office, but also her bedroom and wardrobe, as well as Francesco Giuseppe's office and smoking room have all been completely restored. Learn secrets about Sisi and her husband, Franz Joseph I, and discover their personal rooms and treasures as you hear stories from your expert guide. At the end of the tour, we will have a coffee and cake break in the Castle’s Café, before heading back to Budapest.
Evening Join your fellow travellers for an early dinner in the Aszu restaurant. After dinner, it’s a short walk to the Hungarian State Opera for evening performance of ‘The Nozze di Figaro’. Return to the hotel your guide at the end of the evening.

Day 5

Enjoy breakfast in your hotel and following breakfast check-out. Meet your local guide for transfer to Budapest airport for your return flight. Flight time to be advised.

Booking deposit is €150 pp. Second deposit of €150 due 01 December 2021. Remaining balance due 8 weeks prior to departure date. No credit card charge on deposit payments.

Flight information
One small bag (size of a ladies handbag) and one standard piece of luggage is included in your tour price. (10 kilos carry-on). Checked in luggage is available to purchase prior to travel, prices varies according to baggage weight. Please note that checked-in luggage should be booked at the time of booking and must be booked with a minimum of 14 days prior to travel. The flight times advised above are with Ryanair. Please note that we reserve the right to change both airline and airline times as airline schedules are subject to change. In addition, we reserve the right to change the departure date by a day or two in accordance with airline schedule and rates

Passport / Covid Digital Certificate
It is your responsibility to ensure your passport will be valid for your holiday and that your Covid Digital Certificate and/or necessary entry requirements are in order for your selected destination. Please contact IFC should you have any queries regarding your passport and country entry requirements.
EU passport holders do not require a visa to travel within the EU. As a rule of thumb for European travel your passport should be valid until your intended date of return to Ireland. For travel outside the EU a validity of a minimum of 6 months beyond your return date is required. A visa may be needed for your holiday and information regarding this will be sent closer to travel.

Tour Activities
Please note that there is a fair amount of walking on this tour. Ours are active holidays. Walking, stair-climbing and standing around for periods are unavoidable aspects of this tour. This tour is suitable for those of a normal fitness but may not be suitable for those who need support. Walking and getting on and off a coach several times a day is part of the tour.

Please note that the visitor attractions state that customer touchpoints are frequently cleaned and that in a attempt to reduce crowds, the number of visitors is limited. Masks are required in visitor attractions and indoors and we would ask all travellers to bring their own. Temperature checks are mandatory in certain attractions.
